I ran across the scrabble thingy on some clever person’s blog and it got me thinking. As children, we learn a number of different games ~ hopscotch, dodge ball, tag, hangman, etc. and while they are fun, the games also teach us concepts that we use in everyday life such as taking turns, following rules, strategies to win. They also teach us other things such as how to choose teams (or not be chosen
) and how to cheat (don’t pretend you’ve never cheated!!). As a child, I was quite proficient at word games like scrabble and hangman and not so proficient at games such as dodge ball or kickball. I was the chubby girl in elementary school and although I eventually lost most of the weight, the chubby girl feeling stuck with me for a long time. I hate dodge ball to this very day, though the movie was pretty funny!
Board games also played a big part in my childhood. Growing up in a family of five kids, there was always someone willing to play Sorry, Operation or Battleship. As adults, my family still loves games. Dominoes was a favorite for a while and now Phase 10 is the favorite. Of course, the children must be asleep and the rules have been modified to include drinking by the loser after every hand.
So here’s Auntie’s Inquiry- Do you have a good or bad memory surrounding a game?? and what is your favorite BOARD GAME??
Off to play the “corporate” game! Play fair!
